Dick Advocaat has been appointed as the new National Coach of the Red Devils.

The Dutchman was officially introduced at the association's head offices on Tuesday September 22nd 2009. He signed a two-year contract and the first game under his leadership was the WC qualifier against Turkey,  which was held on October 10th at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels.

Dick Advocaat proved to have a positive attitude during his presentation. "We are all aware of what is ahead. We, as members of the staff, players, but also the media, all need to realise that we need to qualify for 2012. That is our objective", was one of the things he said.

Advocaat started his coaching career with the amateur team DSVP from Pijnacker. There he guided his team to three consecutive promotions and established a series of 67 undefeated games.

Subsequently his career evolved and he became head coach of Haarlem, SVV, PSV, Glasgow Rangers and Borussia Mönchengladbach (where he already worked with our Red Devil, Wesley Sonck).

Until recently Advocaat acted as coach of Zenit Sint-Petersburg, whom he guided towards a national title, a UEFA Cup victory and a UEFA Super Cup victory as well.

In addition, as national coach he also steered the Netherlands to the quarterfinals of the 1994 WC in the United States.

At the EC of 2004, the Dutch team even reached the semifinals under his expert guidance.

Furthermore, he also spent a brief period as coach in the United Arab Emirates and he served as national coach of South-Korea. That team did not make it through the first round on the 2006 WC.

He is able to look back upon an extensive career, both as player and as coach, and he has gathered an impressive record of achievements.
